Careful hand demolition fire-damaged historical chapel at Virginia Theological Seminary.  The work included engineering and re-shoring portions of the existing structure to allow dismantling, cataloguing, and salvage of brick archways and memorial stones, as well as salvage, cataloguing, and packaging of historic artifacts and antique wood and masonry framework for re-use as part of the Memorial Garden.  Extensive coordination between owner, architect, structural engineers, and shoring dismantling was required on a daily basis....

Walter Reed National Military Medical Center

Interior selective demolition multiple floors and phases of upgrade to an active military hospital providing urgent care to combat-wounded military personnel, active duty and retired military members, and their family members. Sensitive work including structural slab openings, MEP demolition, and demolition of interior/exterior finishes was performed directly adjacent to active operating rooms and care facilities.  Infection-control and site cleaning/sterilization work was also performed on this multi-phased, multi-year project in a historical military medical facility....

Townsend Hall Renovation

Careful hand and machine demolition of historic brick structure directly attached to and adjacent to the dining facility on the active campus of Episcopal High School in Alexandria, VA.  This project included abatement of asbestos-containing materials, lead-based paint, weather protection, shoring, and bracing of adjacent historic structures....

Square 77 Renovation

Structural demolition of three 8-story historic brick dormitory buildings directly adjacent to occupied housing, student union, and cultural activities center while retaining original street-side facades.  Controlled demolition of upper floors and separation from façade-retention areas was performed using Brokk robotic demolition tools prior to access with extended- reach excavator(s).  Work included shoring and bracing of existing structures to control demolition activities, asbestos abatement, and extensive traffic-control and flagging/safety operations to allow activities to proceed without endangering heavy student and faculty/facility traffic....

Anne Arundel Hall

Complete demolition of academic hall atop and adjacent to significant historical archeological sites at historic St. Mary’s College.  Project included removal and disposal of asbestos containing materials, close coordination with on-site archeological team, and careful demolition and excavation of structural foundation elements and site retaining walls....

Hayes Hall and Cancer Center

Demolition of 8-story hospital administration building within four feet of new operational 2-story Cancer Center with green roof, as well as demolition of adjacent older Cancer Center including MRI suites and heavy mechanical systems. Work was completed successfully without disturbance to ongoing hospital activities and patients.  The project also involved the removal and disposal of hazardous materials including lead-based paint and asbestos. This project included on-site concrete crushing and recycling of concrete and masonry and construction of site drainage systems and water collection basins....
